Managing, monitoring and mitigating risk

Embedding Risk in system

In reality, very few things happen which haven’t happened before. There will be an exception because we are living in an uncertain world.

So whatever bad things happened already in past, we should try that the same bad thing do not occur once again, so for that we need to do is that for each and every risk identified we must have controls in place which are effective.

And so this is called and embedding the risk in system.

Embedding risk In System

In reality, very few things happen which haven’t happened before. There will be an exception because we are living in an uncertain world.

And for all the wrong things which happened in the past, we usually have the Internal controls for them to prevent it happen again. But the biggest problem is that no one see the effectiveness of those controls and so that’s why the wrong things can happen anytime in future because of inefficiency of controls.

So what we need to do is that for each and every risk identified we must have controls in place which are effective.

And so this is called and embedding the risk in system.

To be successful, embedding risk management needs approval and support from the board.

You should refer the example for more clarity.

Process of Embedding the risk in system:

(1) Identify the controls that are already operating within the organisation.

(2) Monitor those controls to ensure that they work.

(3) Improve and refine the controls as required.

(4) Document evidence of monitoring and control operation

Identifying Controls:

Risk Name

Worker falls from heights

Causes

Controls

No safety equipment provided

– All workers issued with and sign for PPE

– Safe Work Method Statements/Job Safety Analysis to identify safety equipment required before commencement

Failure of safety equipment

– Procurement policy for safety requirement

– All purchased safety equipment conforms to relevant Australian Standards

Worker falls to wear safety equipment

– Safe Work Method Statements/ Job Safety Analysis to identify safety equipment required before commencement

– Disciplinary policies for failure to wear safety equipment

– Induction Checklist

– Site spot checks

Lack of/ineffective training/induction

– Induction Policy
